46th Annual General Meeting (AGM 2024)
The 46th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Singapore Welding Society (SWS) took place on 17 May 2024 at the Hilltop Garden Restaurant, nestled within the Civil Service Club in Bukit Batok. Members began arriving as early as 5 pm, engaging in lively discussions with peers and business associates while enjoying light refreshments. The AGM was adjourned for thirty minutes due to an insufficient quorum at the designated start time of 6 pm, in accordance with the SWS constitution.
The meeting commenced at 6:30 pm, with SWS President Dr. Sun Zheng extending a warm welcome to all attendees. Honorary Secretary Mr. Lim Zhi Yang then outlined the evening’s agenda, which included:
- Confirmation of the minutes from the 45th AGM held on 26 May 2023
- Consideration, approval, and adoption of the Annual/President’s Report for 2023/2024
- Consideration, approval, and adoption of the 2023 Statement of Accounts and Balance Sheet
- Election of Council members for 2024-2026
- Any other business
With no queries raised, the minutes from the 45th AGM were ratified and adopted.
Dr. Sun Zheng presented his Annual/President’s report, expressing heartfelt gratitude for the unwavering support from SWS members. He reaffirmed his team’s dedication to achieving the Society’s long-term strategic objectives and commended the diligent efforts of the various committees. His presentation underscored significant activities and events orchestrated by the committees during their tenure, including the completion of its inaugural Operation & Technology Roadmap (OTR) in the first quarter of 2024.
Honorary Treasurer Mr. Simon Wong delivered the financial statement for 2023, highlighting a robust overall cash and cash equivalent of S$1,798,799 and a 155% increase in surplus before taxation compared to the previous year. Following some deliberation, both the President’s and Treasurer’s reports were approved and adopted by the members.
The Honorary Secretary announced that ten valid nominations had been received for the ten available Council seats, thus all ten nominees were elected to the Council in accordance with the Constitution.
With no additional business brought forth, the AGM concluded at approximately 7:15 pm. Members then proceeded to the restaurant for dinner, enjoying the sumptuous food and alcoholic beverages served throughout the evening.
