The SWS Webinar on EN 1090 in Focus: Raising the Bar for Structural Integrity was presented 09 October 2025 (Thursday) 6.30pm – 8.30pm by Mr Abdul Kadher from DNV based at KL, Malaysia.

The talk on EN 1090 covered this important European Standard which governs the execution of steel structures, covering quality assurance, safety, and regulatory compliance. EN 1090 is a globally recognized benchmark within the European Union.  It is mandatory for manufacturers to meet its requirements to affix the CE marking on structural components. This standard ensures that fabrication processes from welding to material traceability are consistently monitored and controlled under a certified system.

Singapore continues to align its construction practices with the adoption of Eurocodes such as SS EN 1090 is a strategic move to enhance the quality and competitiveness of its built environment industry’s readiness to be a global hub for engineering excellence and at the same time strengthens the integrity and safety of its infrastructures.

The journey toward implementation of SS EN 1090 has many challenges. The industry must navigate complex certification processes, invest in training for welding coordination and quality control, and upgrade production systems to meet stringent compliance requirements.
